The year: 1845. The place: Cobtown, USA. The writer: ten-year-old Lucky Hart, whose vivid diary entries evoke the special place she calls home and the many colorful and endearing folks who share her daily joys, her adventures, her traditions and her boundless American spirit. It's three days before the Cobtown Harvest Festival, and Lucky Hart's aunt Heddy Peggler can't get to her pumpkin patch. A fallen tree is blocking the entrance. Without Aunt Heddy's pumpkins, the big event won't include the annual Pie-Eating Contest, nor will there be any Pumpkin Race. Everyone is disappointed and Aunt Heddy's spirit remains low-at least until the pumpkins miraculously appear in her back yard. There's no time to lose, and no time to ask questions. But how did the pumpkins get there? Only Oinkey, Heddy's pet pig knows for sure!
